The Joy of Creativity: Setting an Intention

You will need: 10 minutes of quiet time, paper, pen and any art materials of your choice.

  1. Quiet your mind. Close your eyes, and connect with your breath. Notice the gentle rising and falling of your chest. If your thoughts wander, no problem; keep coming back to your breath.
  2. Open your eyes and ask: What would I like to bring into my life right now? What do I need to let go?
  3. Set your intention. Think, say, and write your intention: “My intention is to….have, receive, let go of, release, attract ______.” Avoid negative words like “not” and “don’t.”
  4. Soak into your intention: Feel it deeply. Draw, scribble or write your intention all over your paper. Say it out loud and to yourself; connect the words to a feeling in your body.
  5. Create your intention:
    a. Go outside and use small rocks or sticks to write your intention on the earth. If you are inside, write it on sticky notes and put it where you’ll see it all the time.
    b. My favorite: Go outside and breathe the fresh air. Tune into nature sights, sounds and sensations. Let a branch or stick call to you. Bring it inside and embellish it, using paint markers, paper, yarn or any other materials easily available.
  6. Let it go: Release your intention into the universe
  7. Say thank you to whatever higher power that resonates for you.
  8. Trust: By continually affirming your intention, your conscious and subconscious will begin directing your behaviors towards manifesting your intention.
  9. Receive: Observe as your intention unfolds…be sure to say thank you, again and again.

Remember: creative time is your time. It’s a gift that you deserve!

Namaste,   Elizabeth
